Simple, relevant operations business or systems
Because we believe a franchise system doesn’t work unless the system is designed to support everyone so every franchisee and staff member and love to use it
Brian and Prue Keen work together to help businesses, franchised or not, create systems and operations manuals which are:
- Easy to put together
- Easy to use
- Easy to keep up to date
We know most franchisors, even the big guys who have been around for years, are frustrated because it is difficult to get their franchise partners and team to use the systems which have taken so much time to put together.
The problem is most systems are:
- Too comprehensive
- Difficult to use
- And difficult to keep up to date
Fortunately, in this day and age, digital systems with searchable keywords and easy links provide a framework to create a simple system.
So, whether you want to franchise or just want to get your business to run like a franchise, a first step is to systemise and create easy to use operations to help everyone do the job the best way first time.
Why Brian Keen
Brian is a philanthropist and business man with decades ofbusiness experience.
I first saw the massive potential for franchising to create a successful business – fast – after opening and operating seven stores in just five years as a franchisee for Bedshed.
With the knowledge, I gained there and later as a franchising consultant in Australia, a partner and I went on to set up the Franchise Alliance, an international consultancy which helped household names like Brumbys, Ultra Tune, Jim’s Mowing and Donut King. We used this knowledge to develop successful sales strategies and franchise systems. The Franchise Alliance is still going strong Australia wide.
We then used those same strategies and systems to build up six franchise groups, with over 120 outlets between them.
Based on this depth of experience, we’ve since helped many dozens of businesses to franchise successfully, increasing their profits and allowing their owners to retake control of their lives by working fewer hours.
I’ve now brought all my knowledge together in my latest venture, ‘Franchise Simply’, with the aim of showing business owners how to transform a family-sized firm into a multi-million-dollar asset through a unique four-step system, saving tens of thousands of dollars in consultancy fees in the process. FranSystems® is a fundamental part of that process.
Prue has worked with creating reports, instruction manuals, books for the past 30 years in government (dealing with complex planning and environmental issues) and her own businesses, taking complex topics and making them easy for a wide audience to read and understand.
Contemporary business writing is different.
Today’s readers of business material tend to scan rather than read, and so they need an easy to understand, clear writing style, structured in a way they can quickly follow. So, modern business writing, especially when constructing operations and instructional material, uses carefully structured plain English so busy people can absorb the necessary information as fast as possible.
Modern operations are:
- Clear and focused
- Using only as many words as necessary
- Organised so the message is quick to find and quickly apparent
- There is no unnecessary jargon or journalese.
The aim is to get the message across so it is easily understood by your intended audience.
Writing like this is a skill learned over time.
We remove the mystery about systemising before you begin
The first step is to undertake a three to four-hour strategy session with our Systems Director. This session gives you a very clear idea of your business or franchise big picture and the framework of your business or franchise system. It also gives you a preliminary structure for your operations manuals.
Then we work out what is relevant to your franchisees and staff to make it work so you don’t add all the extra material that is not needed. And we talk about what you need to cover legally.
We work with you (or for you if you want us to do all the hard yards) to help you pull together your operations system for the whole franchise.
If you are franchising, we believe you need two interlinked systems, one for your franchise partners so they can do the job to meet your needs and one for you, the franchisor. This way you will have a clear idea of what you expect from them and how you will cover your part of the deal.
The work you od on your current business if you start systemising before you franchise, will form the basis of your franchise systems should you want to take the next step.
However, you proceed, systemising will enable you to delegate and take you out of the day to day, giving you time to grow your business and your life.
We give you the process which you can work through step-by-simple-step to build your system, and if you are franchising we give you clear guides on how to develop that part of the system.
Franchising is a team effort
Because we also understand you will probably need advice from other franchise specialists from myriad disciplines, if you join one of our Franchise Programs through Franchise Simply, you also get an experienced team to work with you every step of the way if needed. You will be able to discuss your decisions with brand specialists, franchise accountants and lawyers, territory specialists – the list goes on.
And, of course, Brian will be there to guide you, making sure each decision has a commercial basis and has input from his years of experience in the industry.
